The temperature range of refrigerated trucks is -20~4℃. The temperature range of refrigerated trucks depends on the goods to be transported, as well as their vehicle type, we usually classify refrigerated trucks into refrigerated trucks and frozen trucks, some trucks can transport both refrigerated and frozen goods, then such is called multi-temperature zone. So let’s talk about their differences.
Refrigerated trucks and frozen trucks
The biggest difference between them is the difference in temperature and the temperature will be maintained. Refrigerated trucks are for low-temperature transportation of items, while not icing and freezing, this temperature can extend the shelf life and inhibit the growth of bacteria and microorganisms. Refrigerated low-temperature transportation can transport vegetables and fruits that cannot be frozen, as well as products such as beverages, who once frozen, cannot continue to maintain their original level. Refrigerated trucks have a temperature range of 0-4 ℃. They are still very much on the road.
Freezer trucks can achieve much lower temperatures than refrigerated trucks, as a refrigerated truck can reach -20°C. It can transport those goods that need very low-temperature refrigeration, there are goods that need to be transported over long distances and also intercontinental transportation, then the temperature of the base is needed. For example, ice cream, meat, medicine, and so on. But different products have different low-temperature requirements, to comply with FDA regulations.
Truck Type | Temperature Range | Purpose | Example Products |
Refrigerated Truck | 0℃ to 4℃ | Keeps items at a stable, cool temperature to extend shelf life and inhibit bacterial growth without freezing. | Fresh vegetables, fruits, beverages |
Freezer Truck | -20℃ and below | Maintains a much colder environment, suitable for items requiring deep freezing for preservation, especially for long-distance and intercontinental transport. | Ice cream, meat, medicines |
Insulation determines temperature range
Why is insulation important? Thermal insulation prevents heat from entering the interior of the product, which makes the internal temperature more stable and keeps it cooler. If the insulation is poor, the internal temperature is not only unstable but also, importantly, it will not be able to reach the desired temperature. The secret of excellent thermal insulation is the use of PU/XPS foam as the core material of the body. This then allows for a greater temperature range in the compartment.
Multiple Temperature Zones
Some trucks want to transport refrigerated and frozen goods, then you need to divide the truck compartment into multiple zones to achieve different temperatures in each zone so that the truck can transport -20 ℃ -4 ℃ products. It is like a household refrigerator.
Multi-temperature zone refrigerated trucks have a greater temperature difference than single-temperature zone refrigerated trucks, and can also transport more products.
If you’re ready to get into the reefer truck business, you’ll want to consider what goods are being transported and what temperatures need to be maintained to ensure safe transportation. We can provide you with better refrigerated and freezer truck solutions. We at CARBODY can provide you with a complete reefer body program, as well as full kits.
